Big Skies

Skies have fascinated me since I was a child. They arch above us filled with clouds and light that build, transform, and dissipate. Skies are always changing—even the colours change. I remember laying in the coulees when I was a girl and looking up to count the blues in the sky.

Skies continue to inspire and exhilarate me today. I like recreating ethereal things like clouds with paint and texture. I glaze, collage, layer, and scrape with various tools and mediums to build up the surface and capture the sky on the plane of the canvas. My work examines themes of awe, alienation, prayer, and personal epiphanies. By looking at what exists immediately in front of me, I attempt to grapple with the eternal. Painting helps mark my place in the world. Painting helps me share these truths.
